Interviews with 2 new committee members

Why did you stand for election?

"As a busy full time manager of a nursing and social care home based in Richmond I have to be very selective about what groups and committees I can practically commit to. However I had no hesitation in seeking active involvement with the Richmond LINk because I strongly believe in the need to engage with local stakeholders of health and social care services. Ultimately, we all want to receive appropriate and accessible, quality care services provided by people who listen and who have compassion and I hope to be part of a team of people seeking to promote local interests with the intention of making a real difference."

"I first heard about the LINk from its former chair. Having been involved for my whole career in the clinical side of care I know how important it is that peoples views and experiences are represented and listened to by the people who plan and give the care they need. I’m a Trustee of Richmond Carers Centre, and a carer myself, so I thought it was important to bring the knowledge and experience this has given me to the LINk."

What are you looking forward to most in your new role as a member of the Steering Committee and its working groups?

"I'm looking forward to seeing how the processes of LINk work to bring about changes that actually affect the man on the street. Through my own experiences I know that just talking about change isn’t enough, I’ve joined the LINk to help make care better. We need to see real improvements, that is what matters and that is what I want to see."

"As a new committee member, I have already been involved in a sub group and so have been able to experience slightly more of what the role has to offer. I am most looking forward to getting to grips with the issues presented to us which we intend to action, but also to using my 25 years experience as a registered nurse to identify areas for further exploration and scrutiny in order to improve the experience of consumers of health care; which is all of us!"
