Public Meeting What does the future of social care funding mean for you? | |||||||
| Over 80 people including LINk members, employees of local organisations and members of the public all contributed to a lively discussion at LINk’s recent public meeting on a subject some have called the biggest change to care since the formation of the National Health Service. The meeting was timed to coincide with the Government’s consultation of this important subject. | ||||||||

Mark Platt, Director of Policy and Public Affairs, National Voices set out the background for the Green Paper and gave a national view point, describing how the current system for funding social care does not work for enough people and how it is hard to navigate especially for people with higher needs.
Aside from the shortcomings of the current system there is another factor demanding a change; a projected sharp rise in the number of older people amongst the population. This means there will be increasing numbers of people needing care coupled with growing expectations that care be delivered in a personalised way at home. Cathy Kerr She described some of the issues she felt should have been given more detail in the Green Paper; integration of services, carers support, a strategy for implementation and arrangements for safeguarding. | ||||||||
